Optionality 2
This is a follow-up to my previous post on optionality.
Reflecting on 2024, I was thinking about how to structure my efforts in the best way to maximize serendipity - the probability of good surprises.
The second law of thermodynamics states that heat always flows spontaneously from hotter to colder regions of matter. This implies that entropy can only increase. This can be transposed in our daily lives by thinking that, when we try to be on time for an appointment, only events that can delay the journey can happen: it's pretty improbable that events that accelerate the trip take place since there is no opposite to accident💥(the lack of them is just their absence).
I often found myself overestimating the risk of life choices; taking too little risk. Regret stems more often from the things not done than from those pursued. Paradoxically, it is hazardous not to take low-calculated risks in a career since you can end up doing something you will regret for the rest of your life.
Hence, now that I've graduated, my north start will be to embark on opportunities that can have the potential to make all the rest a footnote. Fail fast and learn fast.
I'll keep you posted on my next moves. In the meantime, I will conclude with a quote from Elon Musk.
“If the odds are probably in your favor, you should make as many decisions as possible within the bounds of what is executable. This is like being the house in Vegas. Probability is the most powerful force in the universe, which is why the house always wins. Be the house.”
