While in Rotterdam, I got fascinated by the story of the pilgrim fathers. They started in the village of Leiden in the Netherlands, traveled to Rotterdam, then to England, and eventually set off for America aboard the Mayflower.

Upon hearing the news of my upcoming studies at the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia this autumn, my family and I brainstormed ways to turn the journey into a vacation. Our research led us to the last remaining transatlantic ocean liner in service, the Queen Mary 2, which sails from Southampton to New York — an ideal route for my trip. So, we decided to embark on this voyage. To see some of the French and British countryside, we chose to take the train to Southampton.

Here's a snapshot of our travel itinerary:

- 9th of August: Train from Bologna to Paris

- 10th of August: Train to Southampton via the Eurotunnel

- 11th of August: Boarding the Queen Mary 2 at the Mayflower dock 🚢 (good occasion to celebrate my birthday ;)

- 18th of August: Arrival in New York, followed by a train journey to Philadelphia

If my studies in innovation have taught me anything, it's that there's always an alternative way of doing things. 💡
